Skate Rink Slapped for Playing Christian Music

Just as the “right to Life” as stated in The Declaration of Independence has been taken away from certain human beings in our society through judicial fiat, religious rights of United States citizens appear to be increasingly coming under threat of being systematically stripped away (as this article indicates), despite being explicitly guaranteed under the First Amendment to the Constitution.

The End of the Presbyterian Church USA?

Some pretty historic events have transpired this week at the Presbyterian Church USA's annual meeting in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Presbyterian Church USA (also known as the PCUSA) has been embroiled in some serious discussions specifically concerning theology and church polity. One theological issue revolved around names used in reference to God. Those names adopted included "compassionate mother, beloved child, and life-given womb." I emailed a former seminary professor of mine yesterday who happens to be serving within the PCUSA for the rationale of those who offered such blasphemous euphemisms for God. Knowing he would be opposed to such changes, I then suggested that he might propose "Judge, Jury and Executioner" as alternative names for possible consideration. (I heard these names suggested by a caller who called in to The Al Mohler Show earlier this week.)

The Reverend Dr. Mark D. Roberts commented on his blog about another major controversial issue dealing with the ordination process of clergy within his denomination. He writes, "when a church establishes rules but then allows groups to disregard the rules, that church is on the ropes (or worse)." He asks the question, "Should Biblically-Committed Christians Leave the PCUSA?" He then goes on to share his answer to this question. In summary, Roberts urges prudence and careful thinking on the part of those who are considering leaving the denomination. He explains that if one decides to leave, it is important that one depart based on principle, not out of wrong-headed, impulsive emotionalism. Read the entirety of his 3-part article here.

Gays Admit Their Lifestyle Leads To Many Problems

The homosexual community admit in an ad in today’s New York Times entitled “Gay Men and Crystal Meth” that rates of drug use, as well as depression and suicides, are higher among their own numbers than similar heterosexual populations. My question to them is when are they also going to start admitting that this disturbing epidemic is caused not by increased anxiety due to “homophobe intolerance” but rather from what is commonly known as “a guilty conscience.” Finding relief through substance abuse only covers up the real problem. What people who struggle with homosexuality need is not relief, but healing. And healing comes from a change of heart that only God can accomplish when we allow Him in.

“Ban on Gay Marriage” Language Misleading

COMMENTARY by Ed Nicholson

The words used in discussing an issue in the news tells a lot about which side of the ideological fence a particular media outlet is on. How often, for example, do you hear the words “ban” and “gay marriage” associated with the news surrounding the possibility of nationwide legalized same-sex marriage? Is it any coincidence we hear these particular words bantered around this issue so often? I say no. I would argue that “ban” and “gay marriage” are simple, yet cleverly-devised words, precisely used by many in the mainstream media to intentionally and subtly mislead and deceive the public.

For one, the word “ban” implies that the thing it refers to is already happening and is commonplace – in other words, the norm. And people are comfortable with the norm. It naturally feels right to accept things that are normal. However, same-sex partnerships are not the norm; and the mainstream media knows this. That’s why they use their “ban” rhetoric. They know most people are not going to notice this when they watch or listen to the news. Therefore, if the few can get the many to subconsciously buy into the thinking that the homosexual lifestyle is normal, or is becoming more normal, then they can persuade the many to think that we on the right are now the “radicals” who want to restrict something that is the norm. If you want to normalize something, I say just dress it up as the American cowboy. What’s more normal then the American cowboy? The Marlboro Man convinced us that smoking is alright. Now we have the men of Brokeback Mountain showing us that gay is O.K. too.

“Gay marriage” is also a misnomer. What is it that is supposedly trying to be banned – gay marriage? I don’t think so. Gay marriage has been a cottage industry for some time now. It’s one thing to allow homosexuals to have their private ceremonies in Vegas or wherever, but it’s entirely different to force me to accept this behavior as normative, morally virtuous, and a benefit to society. But that is exactly what is being imposed upon us by an assembly of homosexual activists and overzealous, out-of-control, judges bent on reconstituting our laws. What we’re trying to do is defend against the legalization, and thereby, social acceptance of, and support for, same-sex marriage. We are not pushing for a ban on gay marriage per se. Gay marriage is not the issue. Legalized same-sex marriage is the issue.

So you see, those like me are not trying to ban anything; we’re trying to defend something. And that something is marriage – actual marriage. By definition, actual marriage is the union between a man and woman, the institution that forms the foundation of any healthy society, the glue that preserves families – and with, the well being of children. A civil and moral society must institute policies that do all they can to insure that children have the best chance of having both a loving mother and a loving father. Children deserve nothing less. Therefore, you’ll never hear me refer to this front in the Culture War as a fight for a “ban on gay marriage.” Instead, you will hear others and me on the so-called “right” (actually the center) refer to it as a fight to “protect marriage”.

Do you see how these words can deceive people into unorthodox ways of thinking? Gay marriage is not what is normal. Actual marriage is what is normal. And it is actual marriage that needs defending. Many who give you the news are relying on you not to notice these subtle differences. But now you do, because I just told you. So, the next time you see or hear the words “ban” or “gay marriage” on TV, in the papers, or on the radio, know that someone is trying to make you think a certain way. Either that, or they are just plain ignorant – which I doubt.

Fate of Marriage Hangs In the Balance

Action Alert!

The U.S. Senate is deciding early next week (week of June 4th) what to do with the institution of marriage. Please contact your two U.S. Senators today and urge them to give their two votes each in support of the Marriage Protection Amendment (M.P.A.) to the U.S. Constitution.

You heard me right: two votes each.

Technically, your two senators have two possible votes to cast respectively in the determination process concerning this legislative issue of marriage. In order to end a filibuster, or debate, on the Senate floor, at least 60 of the 100 senators must vote to shut off debate so that the issue can be actually voted upon. Cloture, as it is called, is in essence, a vote to decide whether to take a final vote. The cloture vote is, therefore, the first of these two votes each of your senators will have at their disposal regarding this issue of marriage. After invoking cloture, the next vote cast by each of your senators would be to either pass or reject the amendment. If passed by the Senate, the M.P.A. would then go to all fifty states for consideration.

Once it is more in the hands of the people at the state level, passage of the M.P.A. would be almost inevitable considering what took place in November of 2004, where similar legislation resoundingly passed in 11 out of 11 states.

However, the difficult battle right now is in the U.S. Senate where a few senators still need to be persuaded to stand up to the liberal establishment and protect marriage.

So go now to the Marriage Protection Amendment Action Center and do your part to defend marriage!
